Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award Collection

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is pleased to present on-line, its collection of works acquired through the history of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award since its inception in 1984.  This on-line presentation, made possible through generous grant funding received from the Gordon Darling Foundation, showcases 228 works including 101 paintings, 33 bark paintings, 33 works on paper and 61 three dimensional works.  Full details of works are documented and shown with high quality images.  The collection includes early works from big name artists, such as Emily Knwarreye, Michael Nelson Jagamara, John Mawurndjul as well as works of extraordinary quality by many less familiar artists.  This significant collection effectively traces the signatory developments in contemporary Australian Aboriginal art over the last 29 years. While dominated by works from remote regions it also includes urban based artists such as Shane Pickett, Lin Onus, Robert Campbell, Jody Broun and Richard Bell.
