The reel Top End story
‘Gone Fishin’...The Reel Top End story’ explores how fish and fishing tells the scientific, cultural and social stories of the Territory. Drawn largely from the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory’s various collections, this exhibition investigates the regional species of interest to fishers, methods of catching them and the importance of fishing within culture ranging from Indigenous peoples, Macassan fishers, the first European explorers, war time fishers, the early Chinese, modern commercial operations and the seafood industry, and through to the weekend warrior (recreational fishers).
