Building our Museums and Galleries Sector
The Building Our Museums and Galleries Sector is a Northern Territory Government initiative announced in April 2008, to develop a 10 Year Plan for the Museums and Galleries Sector in the Northern Territory.
The initiative aims to better position the Territory to respond to the needs of a growing and more regionalised population and increased tourism.
The Building Our Museums and Galleries Sector Working Group was established to develop the 10 Year Plan in line with major Northern Territory Government policies and plans, including Territory 2030 and Working Future. The primary purpose of the Building Our Museums and Galleries Sector Working Group is to develop a 10 Year Plan for the Museums and Galleries sector in the Northern Territory.
Community forums were held throughout the NT in late 2010 to inform the public about the Building Our Museums and Galleries Sector initiative and seek feedback on the development of the 10 Year Plan. Forums were held in Katherine, Tiwi Islands, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Maningrida, Yirrkala and Darwin. A draft Plan for Northern Territory’s Museum and Galleries was prepared and the Territory Government sought comments, with public comment closing on 25 February 2011.
Where to from here?
Following considerable public feedback to the draft Plan, the Working Group is revising the document which will be presented to the government in the near future.
